This is the latest form of Highly skilled migrant program (HSMP) that has been a very popular visa among those who have got higher education and can provide evidences in respect of their past earnings and English language ability and look forward to settle down in the UK.

Initial Applications
The applicants are required to score a minimum of 100 points under Attributes, Maintenance and English language section in order to apply under Tier 1 (General). The advantage of this scheme is that no job offer is required and successful applicant can set up his own business or do any kind of job. The minimum threshold can only be met if the applicant has got UK equivalent Bachelor degree and have earned 25,000 GBP (or equivalent in overseas using the uplift ratio) in the consecutive 12 months out of last 15 months.

The applicants are required to score a minimum of 95 points under Attributes, Maintenance and English language section in order to apply for further leave to remain while already being on Tier 1 (G) visa or HSMP visa. The minimum threshold for an applicant to apply under the existing rules is to claim 75 points under attributes section and 10 points each under maintenance and English language.

Successful applicants are given leave to remain for a maximum period of 2 years and on completion of total 5 years under Tier 1 (General), the applicant can make an application for Indefinite Leave to Remain, provided he has fulfilled all the necessary requisites.
