It is not necessary for EEA nationals to apply for this “Blue Card “but it certainly very convenient way to establish that the EEA national is exercising his treaty rights in the UK. This is quite important in relation to the family permit or residence card applications of the non-EEA national family members.

This is also useful evidences for the purpose of making application for permanent residence as they have to provide evidence of exercising treaty rights for five years.
